The May rainfall forecast for Africa is highlighted by drier than normal conditions in southern Ethiopia, Kenya, the southeastern part of South Sudan, the northern third of Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda and far eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Wetter than normal areas include much of the area south of the Sahel from Guinea to northwest Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and most of Angola and the northern half of Zambia across to southern Tanzania, Malawi and northern Mozambique and Madagascar. The rest of the continent should be near normal.

Temperature

May

Temperatures are forecast to be above normal for most of the continent with considerably hotter than normal areas in southern Egypt, southeast Libya, northeast Chad and northwest Sudan. Also western Kenya should be moderately warmer than normal. Near normal bands from running from Northeast Nigeria across to western Ethiopia and from Angola in the south to western Mozambique in the east. Madagascar will also be above normal.
